Mary MacKillop is a source of inspiration for all Australians. She will be our first canonised saint - someone for all people of all ages and faiths. Her life was a 'teaching by example', showing us that we can be successful in anything we do if what we do is in accordance to God's perfect will.
Hers is also an example to never give up on what we believe to be worthy of undertaking - if we see a need then help out, look out for others & be kind. People will see something special in us because we are living our life as Christians. We begin to shine so as to be a light to others; and preach without preaching but by example (Cardinal Newman)
There is a commercial on TV that uses this line - "from little things big things grow" - think of how a smile from a loved one can brighten your day, then think if you were to smile to everyone you meet how you could be brightening their day.... and so on. Doing good is infectious & it will spread.

Little did either of us dream what was to spring from so small a beginning

Mary MacKillop 1891

Anything is possible if we dare to carry out our dreams with passion and with hearts desiring to love all people through the heart of Jesus.

Don't do anything from selfish ambition or from a cheap desire to boast, but be humble rowars one another, always considering others better than yourselves. And look out for one another's interest, not just for your own. The attitude you should have is one that Christ Jesus had....

Philippians 2:1-5

I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me.

Philippians 4:13

Prayer by Cardinal Newamn

Dear Jesus,
Help me to spread your fragrance wherever I go. Flood my soul with your Spirit and life.
Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that my life may only be a radiance of yours.
Shine though me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel your prescence in my soul.
Let them look up and see no longer me, but only Jesus! Stay with me and then I will begin to shine as you shine so to shine as to be a light to others.
The light o Jesus, will be all from you; none of it will be mine. It will be you shining on others through me.
Let me thus praise you in the way which you love best, by shining on those around me.
Let me preach you without preaching, not by words but by example. By the catching force, the sympathetic influence of what I do, the evident fullness of the love my heart bears for you.

Amen

  • You are worried about seeing him spend his early years in doing nothing.  What!  Is it nothing to be happy?  Nothing to skip, play, and run around all day long?  Never in his life will he be so busy again.  ~Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Emile, 1762

  • In the United States today, there is a pervasive tendency to treat children as adults, and adults as children.  The options of children are thus steadily expanded, while those of adults are progressively constricted.  The result is unruly children and childish adults.  ~Thomas Szasz

  • Children seldom misquote.  In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn’t have said.  ~Author Unknown

  • What is a home without children?  Quiet.  ~Henny Youngman

Maybe when the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don’t see the one which has been opened for us.

Maybe it is true that we don’t know what we have got until we lose it, but it is also true that we don’t know what we have been missing until it arrives.

Maybe God wanted us to meet a few of the wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.

Maybe the best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you’ve ever had.

Maybe giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they will love you back. Don’t expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart; but if it does not, be content it grew in yours.

If fifty million people say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing.

We thought, because we had power, we had wisdom.

Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do. Whatever else you get, get insight. Love wisdom and she will make you great. Embrace her and she will bring you honour. She will be your crowning glory.

Proverbs 4: 7-9

The way to become wise is to have reverence for the Lord; He gives sound judgement to all who obey His commands. He is to be praised forever.

Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.

God doesn’t require us to succeed; he only requires that you try.

I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world.

I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle. I just wish that He didn’t trust me so much.

If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.

Jesus said love one another. He didn’t say love the whole world.

The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion because if a mother can kill her own child, what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me? There is nothing between.

There must be a reason why some people can afford to live well. They must have worked for it. I only feel angry when I see waste. When I see people throwing away things that we could use.

We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.

We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.

St Angela Merici a

Saint Angela Friend of Girls

and Patroness for handicapped people, loss of parents and against sickness.

Angela inspired devout women in their vocation.

Quotes:

If according to times and needs you should be obliged to make fresh rules and change current things, do it with prudence and good advice.

Be sincerely kind to every one according to the words of our Lord: “Learn of me, for I am meek and humble of heart.” Thus you are imitating God, of whom it is said: “He has disposed all things pleasantly.” And again Jesus said: “My yoke is easy and my burden light.”

~

Angela Merici founded the first teaching congregation of women in the Church and what is now called a “secular institute” of religious women.

As a young woman she became a member of the Third Order of St. Francis (now known as the Secular Franciscan Order), and lived a life of great austerity, wishing, like St. Francis, to own nothing, not even a bed.

At 57, she organized a group of 12 girls to help her in catechetical work. Four years later the group had increased to 28. She formed them into the Company of St. Ursula (patroness of medieval universities and venerated as a leader of women) for the purpose of re-Christianizing family life through solid Christian education of future wives and mothers. The members continued to live at home, had no special habit and took no formal vows, though the early Rule prescribed the practice of virginity, poverty and obedience. The idea of a teaching congregation of women was new and took time to develop. The community thus existed as a “secular institute” until some years after Angela’s death.
