    move with physical awareness,
inhale without awarness of fragrance or odour,
and talk without thinking…perhaps we have lost the art of being human, I know we are greater then ourselfs, and with Gods love all our tomorows must be better then our yesterdays.

  18. these are really great!!! im in yr 9 and we have an assessment on chooseing a disciole of god. i choose mary πŸ™‚ but can someone please help me??? β€œWe must teach more by example than by word.” i really dont get what it means. i know its sorta silly but can someone help me??? thanks and i say a prayer for you all πŸ™‚ <33

  19. Hi Katelyn, thank you for commenting on this post.
‘Teaching by example’ is about how we live our life. Everything we say & do, our attitude, our behaviour, how we work, study, speak to everyone around us; it’s even the little things we do for others – all of this is the ‘example’ to those around us. We need to let the light of Jesus shine through us – how do we allow that to be? By living our life according to how the Lord would want us to live it. When we do that & allow the light of Jesus to shine through us, it touches everyone around us.

I hope this short reply helps you in some way.
    God Bless.

  20. hi
umm i am in year 9 and weh have an assignment on the disciples of christ and there is for parts to the assignment and part 3 is a written response and we have to say how mary mackillops quote “we must teach more by example than by words” relates to oscar romero, mary mackillop , and our choice. i have done oscar romero i just dont know how it relates to mary mackillop and someone else πŸ™‚ i know that sound silly when she said it but i just dont get it ?? thaanks πŸ™‚

  22. hi katelyn ,i am in yr 9 too, i needed help with as well i am doing an re assignment .thanks elena for your response

  23. Hi Jessica, Natalie & Katelyn,
Thank you for your comments. I’ve written another post about Mary Mackillop which is on the front page of this blog.

Just other thought regarding ‘living by example’ –

Everything Mary did she did because she saw a need. She gave herself to helping those in need & she did it too because of her love for Jesus & her love of those people she helped.

So how can we live by example?
St. Paul writes to the Colossians these words –

“But now you must get rid of all these things: anger, passion and hateful feelings. No insults or obscene talk must ever come from your lips. Do not lie to one another ……. So then, you must clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Be tolerant with one another and forive one another whenever any of you has a complaint against someone else. You must forgive one another just as the Lord has forgiven you. And to all these qualitites add love, which binds all things together in perfect unity. …….. Everything you do or say, then, should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, as you give thanks through him to God The Father.”
    Colossians 3:8-9, 12-13, 17

We don’t all have to go out & do Huge things to make a difference but we can do lots of little things which can make a big difference in people’s lives.

God Bless you all – I pray that the Holy Spirit will inspire you in your school assignments.

    Elena πŸ™‚

  24. These are utterly wonderful, beautiful quotes; while being perfect to read during a cup of English Tea.
    God Bless The Queen!

  25. I am in year 7 and for religion homework we have to write a report on what Mary did, where she did it, and when she did it. We also have to include what we learnt about her and how her canonisation is special to Australia. I really need help, it’s really hard to do.

  26. Hi Katelin, there is a Mary MacKillop website you can visit which would have all the information you’re looking for – http://www.marymackillop.org.au
Take a look at it – I’m sure you’ll do fine in writing your report.

  27. that was good

  28. Hi this website was really hepful I’m doing and assiment on mary mackilliop a Valedictory Speech of what she would have said. thanks for the sayings and for the other to girls who were having trouble if they come back go to http://www.marymackilliop.org.au it is really good

  29. I’m using Mary’s life motto for my School Captain application. Our vice principal recited this motto to me after I made a proposal to him of beneficial change in our school. It was immensely satisfying knowing my mere actions brought Mary’s quote into his mind (:

  30. If you ask what I think, if Mary McK saw this page, she would probably say “get off my case please! “.
I find the adulation a bit strange myself.

    • Geri, I don’t believe Mary MacKillop would say anything of the kind. She made a difference in people’s lives and put her faith into action. She may feel humbled that we are taking note of her life & achievements but I think would be ecstatic that young people are looking up to her as an example to follow.

  31. Anyone?

  32. I think Mary McK like any one of us would loove the opportunity to share her faith, her knowledge of God and subsequent love that comes from that with anyone. Life is hard and finding strength and peace from God is a blessing and to have encouragement, which i think these quotes give, basically is Awesome!!

  33. Quotes give us something to think about, to encourage us and for us arty people pushes us in our work and daily stuggles! We all need a little help now and again…there’s nothing strange about resorting to quotes for inspiration…let alone a great figure; the great Aussie icon Mary Mackillop, who so very simple through the above quotes assists us in realising we’re not alone, we’ve got the Chief to to help us! Thankyou for your inspiration page Elena, which has obviously encouraged so many xoxox

  34. What I was trying to say … quoted from
Brian Coyne, editor of the popular online discussion forum Catholica.

“I certainly pick up a sense of unease”.

“It works on two levels: one is how the community generally feels about the commercialisation of her memory, and the other is unease in the believing community as to what Mary MacKillop stood for.

“Would she have approved of all this carry on being made in her name? All this seems to be a sort of disservice to almost everything she stood for.”

MacKillop is revered for setting up schools to educate the poor but her relationship with the church hierarchy was difficult and she was excommunicated” (for a bit)

this will be my last post here.

    • Geri, I know that the commercialisation can seem too much & I guess to some extent Mary would probably cringe at it all. In the article you quoted, it mentions how the Sisters of St. Joseph immediately set out to secure Mary Mackillop’s name. I’m actually glad they did that before some one else did – I’d rather they be the ones to be in control even if it means putting Mary’s name on wine labels. I’ll also quote the article

But Monica Cavanagh, a member of the Sisters of St Joseph, defended the activity. ”It’s my belief that Mary would have thought that if goodness came out of this, if people can touch that spiritual dimension in their life, I believe she would be happy about that.

To some it may appear a “disservice to almost everything she stood for”; but how can we keep quiet about her life, work & spirituality? Yes, she was excommunicated for a bit but I don’t see that as a main point to consider amongst all the activities going on surrounding her canonisation. Her excommunication was revoked with an admission of wrong doing by the church hierarchy.

Anyhow, I believe that a sense of unease would be felt regardless of whether all this adulation took place or not.

I’m sorry it was you last post here Geri – thank you for stopping by & leaving your comments.
      God Bless.
